President inaugurates "levers" of the future

presidenteThe President of the Republic, José Eduardo dos Santos, inaugurated yesterday, in province of Benguela, the International Airport of Catumbela, with capacity for 2.2 million passengers a year.

The structure covers an area of ​​13,500 square meters, a three-story building, with 16 check-in counters, 18 counters for the Migration and Foreigners Service (SME), including ten at the embarkation and disembarkation and eight in the modern equipment air navigation.

The airport has six ports for embarkation, three for disembarkation and a protocol area. In the International Airport of Catumbela, boarding and disembarkation are made through two wings with capacity for four aircraft simultaneously.

On the pier there is an executive lounge that accommodates 100 VIP passengers, 30 commercial spaces for shops, restaurants, coffee shops, travel agencies and others.

For passenger comfort and functionality of the airport are available two conveyors to collect baggage and it can serve two large aircraft simultaneously and four midrange.

The ​​air movement zone, with an area of ​​131 thousand square meters, has 14 vacancies available for the parking of large aircraft such as the Boeing 747-400. It was also done to strengthen the entire floor of the 3,600 meter long runway and improved their existing lighting.

On the outside of the airport was built a car park with a capacity for 230 cars, 80 taxis or hire cars, ten buses and three trucks of firefighters. It is equipped with video surveillance systems and air conditioning, powered by four treatment systems and air purification. The airport has in its infrastructure networks of drinking water, stormwater and wastewater system and a distribution of electric power and an optical fiber network of 23 kilometers for telecommunications. In the next phases of the project will be built the airport's administration building, management and operations facilities, expansion of thermal power plant, warehouses, gas station and fuel depots, airport hotel, maintenance hangar and a cargo terminal.

The structure created 680 jobs, of which 570 were occupied by Angolans and the rest by foreign technicians.

The Minister of Transports, Augusto da Silva Tomás, considered that the construction of the International Airport of Catumbela is part of the strategy for the development of the executive airport in the country.

New railway station

Just yesterday, was inaugurated the central station of the Railways of Benguela (CFB), located in Lobito, in a ceremony presided by the President of the Republic, José Eduardo dos Santos.

The station has departure lounges, offices and offices service and passenger desembarkation deck with capacity for parking, simultaneously, six compositions train.

The CFB, with a length of 1,344 kilometers, currently has 67 stations and runs through the provinces of Benguela, Huambo, Bié and Moxico. It has five passenger trains with 12 carriages each, and a composition endowed with goods wagons for containers, platforms and tanks for fuel.

Are part of the CFB the extensions to the Port of Lobito, with 7.08 miles long, to the town of Benguela, with 27.3 kilometers, and a double line between Lobito and the airport, with 19.55 miles.
